Every situation is different, but whether it’s a first date or you’ve already been out a few times, you should take a cancelled date at face value, approach it with kindness, and don’t take it personally. If you feel like the excuse is legitimate and want to reschedule, let them know!

If they say they’re sick, respond with, “I hope you feel better and I’d love to reschedule.” Put your intentions out there—the worst that can happen is they say no and you move on.

There’s a difference between cancelling the morning of a date, and cancelling an hour beforehand. If you feel like you’re not getting an appropriate heads up with the cancellation, you can move on. But don’t take it personally. It’s not about you, it’s about them.

Check out this POPSUGAR article I was quoted in for more ideas on how to respond to a cancelled date.
