5 Ways to Improve Your Chances of Successful Online Dating

Online dating is a tricky and challenging process, especially since Covid has completely changed how online dating works. Many online platforms like OkCupid reported a 700% increase in dates between March and May of 2020. However, for many single people, navigating the online dating scene with safety guidelines and lockdowns has changed the way we interact with each other and pursue a romantic relationship.

As dating consultants, we’ve heard time and time again how difficult this has made the online dating process. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people who can’t seem to find the right person through online dating, so it’s essential to make sure you’re following the right love advice to set yourself up for success. If you’re ready to step up your online dating game, here are five tips to maximize your chances of finding the perfect someone and improve your chances of successful online dating.

  • Focus On Your Main Profile Picture

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that your profile is complete, which includes posting a main profile picture. However, not every image is appropriate for your online dating profile. Look to upload a picture that’s taken in natural light with your face looking straight into the camera.  If you’re a woman, make sure to wear natural makeup and an outfit you feel comfortable in. If you’re a man, take the time to groom your face and wear a clean outfit. Once you’re ready, take your photo against a simple background to create a compelling profile picture.

  • Be Authentic in Your Bio

Don’t copy and paste your bio from another website. The best way to approach your profile is by being honest. However, that doesn’t mean that you need to dive into the biggest dramas or secrets of your life. Instead, highlight yourself in a conversational tone without trying to sound like you’re interviewing for a job.

  • Search For Your Own Dates

Don’t just wait for people to approach your profile. Instead, take the time to search for men or women that fit what you’re looking for out of a partner. You can search based on similar interests, age, or even education. If you find a potential partner, make sure to write a personalized message that shows interest without coming off too strong.

  • Don’t Expect to Find Someone Right Away

It’s easy to get anxious if you don’t think your dating profile is getting any hits or didn’t have success on your first date. However, that doesn’t mean you should give up on trying! It’s likely that it may take a few dates before you find the right person.

  • Be Open to Alternative Dates

Since Covid, the online dating scene has dramatically changed. As a result, you or your potential partners might not feel comfortable meeting in person right away. Thankfully, there are other creative ways to connect, such as through virtual happy hours or Netflix parties. Once you get to know the person better, you can move forward to an in-person date.
