WCNC Defenders investigative reporter, Savannah Levins, reports that popular dating apps do not run any background checks on users. Because of this, there are dating app members who may have a criminal background. WCCB interviews a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department officer on this matter, as well as local matchmaker Laurie Berzack of Carolinas Matchmaker. Berzack encourages dating app users to protect themselves and to do their own research. Berzack’s matchmaking service includes a full criminal and sex offender background check.
